Boost for Brit-asian Designers

BRIT-ASIAN DESIGNERS

High profile fashion event Asian Dreams returns in July 2005 to provide a major platform for British Asian designers from established fashion houses as well as up and coming designers, to showcase their work. Now in its fourth year, Asian Dreams returns to its original birthplace, the spectacular Fashion and Textile Museum in Bermondsey. It will feature some of the hottest and emerging London based Asian designers exploring contemporary British Asian fashion today.The event which is supported by Newham College of Further Education’s Centre for Innovation and Partnerships (CIPs) has been helping small businesses by providing training opportunities for fashion designers to develop their creative and business skills through collaboration, networking and showcasing. ied out by small businesses. We want to build a foundation to support that and over the next two years will be providing workshops and talks for designers, manufacturers and retailers in East London to help their businesses develop and improve their design and business skills.”


New Designers
This year’s highlights include newcomer urban designer Sonal Patel who recently won the highly acclaimed Swatch Individual Design Award and an internship with leading fashion designer, Walé Adeyemi. Leaving Bond Street for Hackney, London’s first female tailor Imtaz Khaliq will be showcasing her couture collection and will be joined by Green Street based Trendz UK, winners of the Best British Newcomer category at the Asian Business Awards 2005.Recognised names such as Khubsoorat, Chiffons, Raishma and Nigina London will be displaying collections with a fusion twist showcasing fashion that connects with second generation British Asians.

The opening night will see an exclusive performance by British Asian bhangra star Ms Scandalous.

Asian Dreams will feature some of the hottest and emerging London based Asian designers exploring contemporary British Asian fashion.
