Dear Editor
I picked up your magazine recently via the London Mela Launch. However, what makes you think that Walthamstow or Leyton/Leytonsone are not in East London? For instance, what makes South East London’s Lewisham and Deptford more East than Leyton or Walthamstow and more worthy of well founded articles about the East End Cultural Provision? There are hundreds of artists here and waves of regeneration that would put these places on the map as the next boomers. I think your interpretation is alien, as alien as many of the groups taking over the Shoreditch/ Brick Lane areas- middleclass art people. We are not all asleep here and any good arts magazine aimed at East London should see that.

Read the last issue of your magazine and was on the lookout for personal/classified ads but was disappointed to find none. It wouldn’t hurt to have a section for artists and the like to offer their talents and services or say, even a room to let?

In general, I feel that the magazine is very informative and provides plenty of innovative, interesting and worthwhile information. The use of colour is nice and the articles and layout are cool. However I believe a few improvements could be made; the magazine seems fairly crammed, and could benefit from being printed on a few more pages as it contains plenty of info, and this is compensated by the rather small font being used. The font size is not terribly easy on the eyes and may be a struggle for people with poorer eyesight making less accessible...thus more pages in the mag.
The use of more pages would also allow for more spacing for the articles, allowing people to take more notice of them & the info they contain; it would also enable better layout of the articles reducing the ‘crammed’ appearance. The mag could also possibly benefit from a ‘Contents’ page at the front to indicate exactly and give readers an idea of what CEN contains, and maybe a little paragraph on what the mag is generally about & its aims and philosophies (by the editor perhaps). Other than maybe some structural pointers mentioned, the content is great & fairly fresh.

I came across CEN mag recently and was delighted to find finally a well written arts magazine. I have one gripe, as a graphic designer, I found the layout and design could do with a few improvements. I would be happy to offer some tips.
